The Filipino Association of Nova Scotia was founded in 1968 by Dr. Jake Asunción, a respected physician, educator, and community leader.
Dr. Asunción was not only a pioneer in the medical field but also a visionary who recognized the importance of building a strong Filipino community in Nova Scotia. He drafted the organization’s first Constitution and Bylaws and served as its first President.
Through his leadership and dedication, FANS became a foundation for cultural celebration, support for newcomers, and community unity.
Over the decades, FANS has grown alongside the Filipino population in Nova Scotia—continuing its mission to serve, connect, and inspire future generations.
